Over the past 30 years, farmers across Vietnam have benefited from Syngenta’s crop protection solutions, high-quality hybrid seeds, superior vegetable seeds, and professional technical support. It has increased the quantity, quality, value, and competitiveness of Vietnam’s agricultural output, including corn, rice, coffee, potato, pepper, and other local crops.
Syngenta is the first agricultural foreign direct investment (FDI) company investing in research and development (R&D) facilities in Vietnam. About $1.5 million is spent on development activities in Vietnam annually to develop, test, evaluate and trial products which gives Vietnamese farmers early access to fit-for-purpose technologies, helping to achieve a reduction in production losses, providing greater consistency in yield and quality. With an eye on the future of agriculture in Vietnam, the company brings in innovations that can improve growing conditions for farmers and enhance the quality of crops. In addition, through these CSR activities, the company can build team spirit and motivation on community contribution for all employees and increase their knowledge on the company’s “Good Growth Plan” value and its linkage to business activities.
Moreover, the company has implemented programmes to build more than 110 houses for poor farmers across 30 provinces in Vietnam to help meet the needs of the country’s impoverished communities. These programmes are focused on utilising farming as a way to lift communities out of poverty. The company also provides access to education for students in Mekong Delta through offering scholarships, and its “Coats for Poor Children” programme encourages its employees to contribute part of their salaries to give thousands of coats to poor children in remote areas each year.
Furthermore, the company champions the “Clean Field, Green Life” programme which promotes the awareness of environmental protection to over 7,000 farmers. The company has collected approximately 36 tons of empty crop protection packages on the fields in 7 provinces in over 6 years.

Over the last three decades, along with improving the efficiency of cultivation practices, Syngenta’s crop science technology has helped increase the value of agricultural products and contributed to the key milestones of Vietnamese agriculture.
Each year, about 16 million hectares of crops are protected with the company’s crop protection products; approximately 180 thousand hectares of corn, rice and vegetables are planted with its seeds; and millions of people are being protected from community diseases through the use of its public health products.
In addition to commercial activities, Syngenta has a strong commitment to farmers’ livelihood and the future of agriculture with its “Good Growth Plan”, in which it has commitments that accelerate innovation for farmers and nature through investments in new technologies; commitment to carbon-neutral agriculture through carbon capture and enhanced biodiversity; and partnerships for impact to create inclusive programmes around sustainability.
Each year, the company provides stewardship training for more than 400,000 growers and stakeholders to help educate them on the proper use of crop protection products to protect crops from pests and disease while protecting farmers’ health and environment, and ensuring that agricultural products meet food safety requirements for both domestic and export markets.
