Chairman Huy earned his bachelor’s degree with three majors in business administration, finance and international business in 2000 and an MBA in 2002, both from Chapman University (USA); and he earned his DBA from Golden Gate University (USA) in 2010. He joined ACB as a market research officer in 2002 and later was appointed Deputy CEO in 2008 and functioned as Chief HR Officer. He earned his experience in investment banking when working in the M&A advisory team of Rothschild Group (UK) from 2010 to 2011.

For the first few years under his chairmanship, the board and the management were successful in recovering the bank’s deposit size and improving profitability. What is more is that sources of funding are more diverse and stable. From late 2012 through 2020 ACB has been transformed into a resilient and competitive organization under his chairmanship. Leadership practices are characterized with the following: building vision and core values, development of strategies, restructuring the bank, going back to the basics in banking business, focus on building people and cultural change, leading innovation and promotion of environmental conscientiousness among employees and its customers.

ACB has recently completed several action plans such as branch network restructuring, change of corporate identity, upgrading the core banking system, launching priority banking business. ACB resolved all legacy issues relating to the 2012 incident by 2017 and restored the bank’s position as one of the top performers in Vietnam with an ROE of 27% and 25% in 2018 and 2019 respectively. ACB is proud of being of a few banks with lowest NPL ratio, which stood at 0.73% and 0.54% in 2018 and 2019 respectively. ACB has continuously increased its presence nationwide. As of June 30, 2020, the bank has almost three million customers served by its 11,200 employees in 369 offices in 47 provinces and cities. ACB was also one of the first ten banks (among the thirty-five domestic commercial banks) picked by the State Bank of Vietnam to apply Basel II standards. For long-term goals, the bank has devised a Transformation Management Office to manage multiple critical initiatives to drive changes, such as building customer value propositions to customers, branch network efficiency improvement, etc.

The bank’s strength has been widely recognized by the finance community and major ratings organizations such as Moody's (Ba3) and Fitch (B+). ACB has achieved many prestigious domestic and international awards such as “Bank of the Year in Vietnam 2019” by The Banker and "Best Companies to Work for in Asia” in 2019 and 2020 by HR Asia.

Last year, Enterprise Asia awarded him with the "Outstanding Entrepreneur."

It could be said that Chairman Huy is a strong believer and champion of the environment. He initiated the campaign "Close to Earth” to promote an environmental protection culture to employees and customers of the bank through saying no to single-use plastic products, paper-free approach, financing environmental protection programs, etc.

Chairman Huy led ACB to overcome the impact of August 2012 incident (2012 - 2014) and resolution of legacy issues. Not only that, building vision, core values and a development strategy with strategic objectives to 2024 and lastly, managing the bank in an efficient and sustainable way, making ACB one of the top banks in Vietnam in terms of sustainable growth, asset quality (lowest NPL ratio) and profitability (high ROE) are some of the key milestones under his leadership.
