Amit is of Indian origin, and was born in Amritsar. Most of his upbringing was in relatively small towns in India, which made him understand the challenges faced by people and that has helped him deal with the supply chain challenges in agriculture. He had observed many great business leaders in India, and the social impact that they brought in a developing country like India and had
always dreamt about making an impact to the society and contribute in bringing development through new ideas.
The biggest challenge in the agricultural supply chain is achieving the twin objectives of improving farmers’ livelihood and ensuring that it is done in a sustainable way. In this regard, Amit has introduced many strategic initiatives including setting up specialty coffee supply
chains and also improved access to farmers through digital origination programmes.

Amit continues his focus on building a talent pipeline for the Company. He started Management Trainee Programmes in Indonesia and Vietnam, which helped in meeting the expanding business needs. He also focused on improving overall employee engagement, which
has resulted in Indonesia and Vietnam being the top 5 countries for Olam in terms of employee engagement. As country Head of Indonesia, Amit was instrumental in delivering strategic goals that won him recognition both internally and in PNG for the past three years. After moving to Vietnam, he has achieved the same recognition two years in a row.
Amit aspires to make Olam a significant player in the agriculture supply. He is aware of challenging consumer preferences which will define future growth strategies for the Company and wants to make Olam the catalyst in embracing such changes. In Vietnam, Olam will continue to invest in meeting consumer demands and build technical expertise. This includes ensuring that farmers and communities are encouraged to adopt sustainable practices through effective use of technologies. Amit also believes in the need to invest in building a talent pipeline and to nurture leaders in Vietnam as part of Olam’s plans to go global.
His advice to future leaders is to be willing to embrace new technologies and techniques to improve efficiency. He believes that the Company needs to invest in the upgrading of skills to remain relevant in the future.
