President
Mr. Pramote Pruangaksorn, the president of Food Project (Siam) Company Limited was born in a teacher’s family. As a child, he had a dream to follow his ancestors to be a good teacher. However, he was always told by his father, “If you love your family and their well-being, don’t be a teacher, a real good teacher will never get rich.’’ In his childhood, he did many errand jobs to earn his living and helped lessen the burden of his parents.
The turning point came in a summer vacation when he was studying at Assumption Commercial College and had an internship in a customs clearance broker company, he got a good trainer and learned a lot about the import and export customs formalities. He also learned about import and export food products that helped expand his knowledge about international business. He spent his whole summer vacation almost every year being a customs clearance broker. With a passion to learn, he then got a new dream to do international business. It gave him a clear direction for his study and career since then.
In 1990, Mr. Pramote’s elder brother asked him to study and import a kind of fish called “Saba” or mackerel. He did and later the company became the pioneer introducing a variety of seafood products from all over the world to the Thai market since then. Having no business background and business mentor, he made a lot of mistakes at the beginning of his business. Fortunately, he managed to sail through the problems that almost capsized his business from the very beginning.
With the humble start of his business, the company introduced and promoted frozen seafood and sold in supermarkets, fishery ports and traditional markets. Currently, Food Project imports food products regularly from about 30 countries all over the world. Mr. Pramote started import seafood products as the purchasing manager about 30 years ago and took a role in determining the new business direction to today’s success.
When Mr. Pramote entered the foodservice supply business 30 years ago, he set a clear policy and different customer approach for his sales team from the beginning. He always emphasizes on professional customer approach that requires true knowledge, facts and responsibility. He believes that as long as we stand from the customers view and apply into the business and give them a good solution, the business potential is endless.
Mr. Pramote always gives value for long term business relationship with his business counterparts. Some of his seafood supplies and customers have been doing business for almost 30 years and still continuously keep good relation as of today.
He leads the company from a local player company to a leading national foodservice distributor company with well-established selling and logistic distribution networks nationwide. Today, Food Project (Siam) Company Limited becomes the top foodservice supply delivery with the turnover of US$ 120 million in 2018. Moreover, the company is expanding the foodservice branches into major provinces in Thailand such as Chiang Mai Phuket, and Samui. They supply food product ingredients not only for domestic market, but also export to neighboring countries.
Future Plans
Food Project is paving its way to be a one-stop service of foodservice supply delivery in Thailand. Mr. Pramote plans on extending the product lines to cover the full range of food categories to operate like a supermarket for foodservice operators and also for small and medium food producers in Thailand. Mr. Pramote visions the company to be the food gateway for food manufacturers from domestic and from all over the world to access to Thailand market and its neighboring countries by utilising the selling platform and their international standard cold-chain logistics distribution networks in a faster, cheaper and better fashion.
Besides the ‘business to business’ business model, the company also starts the ‘business to consumer’ business. It has a demonstration shop named Food Promart and is going to develop to be an e-commerce business. With the inherited own logistic distribution networks, this section will be another new business engine to drive the growth of the company in the future.
Mr. Pramote believes that sustainability remains the key element of the company’s success to both business itself and organisational growth, and helps the company achieve its vision of excellence in order to meet the needs of their customers.
