Introduction
Thai Enterpreneur “Mrs.Salisa Piboonswasdi” is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Comets Intertrade Company, the leading importer of cosmetic packaging and cosmetic products. Under 54-yearsold CEO’s leadership, COMETS flourished with yearly sales about 900 million Bath in 2017. The company is countlessly behind the success of many top brand cosmetics in Thailand. By 2018, it is also another year of pride of COMETS as it opened the one-stop learning center of cosmetic packaging called “CCC” (Comets Cosmenovation Center) at its new office building located on Srinakarin 38 road to celebrate the 25th anniversary of business.

Early Life and Career
Salisa Piboonswasdi was born in merchant family. Her mother sold Thai dessert at the market nearby. So, she has been interested in business and marketing since childhood. She graduated from Assumption University with a master’s degree in computer engineering management. During high school, she studied in commercial college. After that she started first working at a leading cosmetic manufacturer at that time, where she gathered the knowledge about cosmetic production. And at the same time, she also studied evening course at Assumption University until graduation with bachelor’s degree in Financial Management. Apart from that, she still had an opportunity to work in a field of import business. So, after pursued her awareness in cosmetics industry for several years, she decided to quit her job as employee and begin small business with her husband who had working experience in toys factory.

Successful Business Venture
In 1993, Salisa founded COMETS with only 300,000 Baht capitals and 30 employees, commenced import and distribution of premiums and beauty accessories to leading consumer goods manufacturers in Thailand. By staying connected with the original customer base, Unilever is the first client, and followed by P&G and Cerebos. It was amazing that arrival of Comets in the first year can generate 40-50 million Baht revenue.

During the Tom Yum Kung crisis which the value of Thai Baht became weak in 1997, it was the golden year of company that turned crisis into the opportunity. Among many companies choose to close down, but not for Comets. The company’s leader showed spirit to be responsible for the loss of exchange rate without dispute about increasing cost although more than half of raw materials were imported from aboard. As a result, the customers remained ordering other products consecutively, while enabling suppliers to survive at the same time. Since then, the company’s reputation spread throughout the industry, and achieved annual sales growth exceeding 100% more than 100 million Baht within 3 years later.

Later in 2002, after the crisis several industries failed except cosmetics. In view of a pioneer, Salisa saw the business opportunity in cosmetics market because of lack of cosmetic packaging supplier in Thailand at that time. With solid connection to major manufacturers in China, Taiwan, and South Korea, the company began to expand its business in the field of cosmetic packaging to enhance the business. The first cosmetic brand to work together was “Mistine”, which became a famous Thai brand in the global market. Comets had vast collection of more than 100 beauty products launched each year from research and innovation. And, one of the proudest ideas that collaborative with Mistine was auto eyebrow pencil with promotional concept that eyebrow is the crown of the face.

This is the beginning of leading player in cosmetic industry today, and one of the largest cosmetic packaging importer in Thailand.

Throughout the years, Salisa has been working with passion in order to develop the technology and make Comets the leader in cosmetic innovation. Emphasizing on product quality is significant factor that strengthened the company’s position as a market leader and became a leading company in the country. With her experience in business for more than 25 years, she has led Comets to be one-stop service company in providing cosmetic innovation with great service, highest standard, professional teams, and creative solutions on an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) basis, and also established the company’s own cosmetic brand called “arete” and “be WiLD” which launched to market in early this year. To reflect the accomplishment, she added sustainable value to the company by setting up the CCC, the center of excellence to unceasingly promote the cosmetic know-how, which was very attractive to the new generations who would like to begin the cosmetic business. As a consequence, in July 2018 she was awarded a prize for “Outstanding Business Women Leader” by the Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Associations of Thailand Under The Royal Patronage of H.M. The Queen (FBPW).

Salisa believes that this journey of success is built not only by her, but also together with Comets employees who dedicated to work. Recently, the company has grown to over 250 employees to support the expansion of its cosmetics business. Since she is an energetic entrepreneur who has never stop working on the development towards the company’s aim to be a global leader in the cosmetics industry with inspired and innovative designs under concept that “We provide what others cannot provide”, thus the company committed to this vision to drive business.
