Materials Analysis Technology Inc.

Information about the Company
Founded in 2002, Materials Analysis Technology Inc. (MA-tek) is a third-party commercial laboratory, providing services in Materials Analysis (MA), Failure Analysis (FA), and Reliability Testing (RA) services. In line with the rapid growth of the business’s development, MA-tek is well-equipped with additional Surface Analysis (SA) and Chemical Analysis services that provide superior complete solution services. MA-tek currently has 15 laboratories set up globally, providing 24/7 assistance in logistic support and technical services.

MA-tek is an independent lab with ISO 9001 and IECQ17025 international accreditations in 2004. Consequently, it was also certified by TUV NORD for automotive testing, ESD 20.20, ISO 27001, ISO/IEC 15408, and TIPS (Taiwan IP Management System).

It has been publicly listed in the Taiwan OTC market since August 2009. MA-tek commenced from ground zero business in the first year 2002 and turned to be profitable in the second year 2003. The revenue growth has been high in the past 20 years with an accumulative CAGR of around 20%. The market value of MA-tek has gone up rapidly to USD 500-600 million, which is equivalent to around 20-30 times that of the company capital (USD 21 million), and the total asset (USD 200 million) is about 10 times that of the capital (USD 21 million).

Besides that, the company’s total number of employees is around 1200-1300 people as of this year. Considering the business scale and the size of the operation, MA-tek is known to be the largest RD center in the worldwide market, with a fully diversified customer base including more than 8,500 corporate accounts in different fields.

An analytical service business is highly capex-intensive and knowledge-intensive with certain entry barriers. MA-tek focuses on the capital investment of expensive instrumentations in solid-state electronics and novel materials applications. Its equipment capacity and performance characteristics have brought the labs to the tier-one position in this field.

MA-tek’s vision is to become the tier-one laboratory and its mission is to become the best R&D partner of valuable customers. The company’s corporate values are to assist customers in various industries in product development and quality improvement. The ultimate goal of MA-tek is to be the most advanced research center while being intimate RD partners with its clients.

Corporate Culture & Company Activities
Adhering to the spirit of “Talent is the cornerstone of MA-tek and the core of technology”, the company designed a systematic training plan to cultivate all employees’ core abilities through continuous learning.

Meanwhile, MA-tek has adopted a dual-pronged social participation strategy using the “University Instrumentation Center partnership” and the “societal co-prosperity collaboration”. Leveraging its professional technology, MA-tek engages in industry-academy cooperation, charitable donations, diverse education support, disadvantaged care, and the promotion of Taiwanese culture.

Some corporate activities include supporting diversified education and the care for disadvantaged groups, by hiring visually impaired people to provide massage services. There is also the contribution of local support, such as procurement from small farmers and orange tree adoption during the Covid-19 pandemic. MA-tek also emphasizes talent cultivation, with the 2021 launch of subsidies to the industry-academia cooperation plan for 20 special cases and an investment of NTD 20 million for each year.
Achievements and Impact
Despite the China-U.S. trade war in 2018, the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, and the Shanghai lockdown in 2022, the growth momentum is still strong in the MA-tek business sector. In 2022, the consolidated annual revenue was historically high at NTD 3,973 million, with an 18.2% growth rate; and a net profit after tax of NTD 627 million (a significant increase of 7.12% compared to the last year). MA-tek’s optimized product portfolio and operational efficiency raised the gross margin from 35.88% to 36.91%.

Key strategy deployment has been crucial to MA-tek’s success for the past 20 years and in the upcoming future. These include “FREE delivery” of sample shipping, dedicated “Customer Services and Project Management”, “Total Solution Services”, “One Day Turn-Around”, and “AI-assisted management systems”.

Future Direction
The founder, Dr. Hsieh, envisions MA-tek’s global presence to be epitomized by “Where there is a science park, there is MA-tek” and “To be the best R&D partner with valuable clients in the high-tech industry”.

To serve customers efficiently, MA-tek has set up a service network in Taiwan, China, Japan, and the U.S. with center facilities and subsidiary service hubs. All staff are well educated on the “Precise and Accurate, Efficient and Effective” policy.

In the future, development strategies shall follow the company’s VIP clients to those well-developed countries and pursue digitized IOT connections for mobile phones, notebook PCs, and automotive vehicles, improving driving safety and information security. The versatile applications of electronic products will bring in another big wave of analytical demands in every respect. Thus, a bright future for analytical business can be seen clearly in the worldwide market.
