Francis Lau Choo Yew (Francis Lau) started his entrepreneurship journey as the Founder and Managing Director of LCY Development Sdn Bhd, with a small team of five employees. Since its incorporation, the company has expanded rapidly to become an active and reputable contractor specializing in building and civil engineering projects. With the success of LCY Development Sdn Bhd, Francis Lau has founded the LCY Group of Companies in Malaysia, Singapore, and Australia since 2002. He is also the co-founder of multiple companies in Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore, and Australia. Francis Lau was appointed the Director of Progen Holdings Limited, a Public Listed Company in Singapore, specializing in Mechanical & Electrical works in 2015. As a Bruneian Permanent Resident, Francis Lau graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Building with Honours at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia in 1984. He served as a Quantity Surveyor with the Public Works Department, Negara Brunei Darussalam in 1985 and worked for 8 years before joining private practice. He is now a Chartered Surveyor, Chartered Builderandregistered Quantity Surveyor with professional institutions of the United Kingdom, Australia, Malaysia, and Negara Brunei Darussalam.

Over 130 projects have been completed since the corporation of LCY Development Sdn Bhd, the LCY Group of Companies, and other multiple companies in Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore, and Australia, specializing in building and civil engineering projects, housing and apartment development and commercial projects such as shop houses and hotel plaza. The incorporation of LCY and its groups of companies has created over 1,000 job opportunities locally and in overseas countries. The contribution of LCY and Francis Lau has gained recognition and received multiple awards from overseas in Malaysia, Singapore, and European Countries. Francis Lau believes that in order to sustain itself in the market, it is important to ensure value for money and satisfaction of the customers or clients by providing good service and understanding their needs and wants.

He measures success by achievements and evaluates achievements from the hours of work spent. He strongly believes that there is no secret to success, except hard work and having the heart to work.

He adds that dedication to work is important; there is no success in the long term if employees do not have the heart to work, no matter how good they are. The long-term vision of Francis Lau is to expand his business interests into the ASEAN region mainly in Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, and Myanmar, and also the Asia- Pacific Rim in Australia and New Zealand in the field of property development and construction, where he has started in Malaysia, Singapore, Myanmar, and Australia.
