Dr. Ming-Hsi Chuang is the president of Gwo Xi Stem Cell Applied Technology Co., Ltd. As an entrepreneur from a different industry background, Dr. Chuang has successfully led a pharmaceutical company through integrating different industry feature quickly. Under his leadership, Gwo Xi’s revenue continues to grow annually, and three new stem cell drugs have entered clinical trials.Dr. Chuang attaches great importance to innovation in the pharmaceutical industry. Under his leadership, the R&D team has accumulated 23 SCI publications and obtained nearly 70 patents. He has completed his master’s degree and doctoral degree in business management in a very short period.

Dr. Chuang has served as the general manager of the electronic materials industry. He worked long hours which caused his liver to suffer. In the beginning, Dr. Chuang found traditional laboratory-based
stem cell manufacturing has a high production costs and no quality
control in its products. Dr. Chuang improved the manufacturing
process to a modular based process and production capacity
increased by over five times.
With the maturity of cell culture technology and the improvement of relevant laws and regulations in various countries, cell therapy became more and more commercialised. Dr. Chuang seised the opportunities and researched and roll out four kinds of cell product development platforms. Gwo Xi provides CMO or CDMO services of stem cell therapy product like IC foundry business services. This has driven the rapid development of Taiwan’s stem cell industry.
Vision, Mission & Future Plans
In 2020, Gwo Xi expanded its blueprint and moved into the National Biotechnology Research Park (NBRP), which is the largest science park of the bioindustry in Taiwan. They established the ATMP Lab for the development of advanced medical products. Through cooperation with Academia Sinica, they co-developed advanced cell reprogramming technology and will start clinical trials in the next few years.As the next move, Gwo Xi will cooperate with experts and scholars from worldwide to integrate resources from industry, government, academics and hospitals. Gwo Xi will also look for partners to work with them and promote Taiwan’s technology and products to the international market. Dr. Chuang will continue to lead his team to invest in stem cell drug investment as he believes stem cells can save people’s lives.
