Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC) is a leading universal bank accelerating digital transformation in the Philippines. It is also the first private local universal bank to have the most extensive reach with registered customers from across all 81 provinces nationwide through its mobile apps RCBC Mobile and DiskarTech.2020 is a milestone year for RCBC. Dubbed as the “Philippines’ No. 1 breakout finance application” by App Annie, DiskarTech soared above a crowded field due to its unique proposition, relevance and perfect timing. Its social impact indicators include a huge registration turnout of DiskarTech mobile app users in every province in the country within five months from its launch. More than 60 percent are women, over half of whom are from rural areas. Around 80% are millennials with a sizeable portion being Gen Z. Seven out of eight financial transactions are currently being done outside Metro Manila. This is imperative as more than 70% of users are residing in the provinces.

In March 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, RCBC implemented a work-from-home set-up to make sure that the welfare of all employees is protected, and that they are wellequipped to continue in fulfilling their responsibilities. To ensure that employees’ mental and physical health are taken care of, the company provides learning materials through an electronic direct mail (eDM). RCBC continuously conducts online learning modules that will further enhance the professional skills of its employees.RCBC also ensures that employees stay true to the Company’s core values of Passion for Excellence, Sense of Urgency, Professional Discipline, Loyalty and Teamwork. In the current pandemic, RCBC has dedicated it’s time to featuring stories of Filipinos who showed resilience in surviving the difficulties brought by the pandemic through an originally produced music video.

Achievements and Impact
After DiskarTech was launched in July 2020, it already made a mark in the fintech industry when it achieved one million downloads in just one month. DiskarTech enabled RCBC to reach customers that are filtered by barriers such as minimum deposit requirements and branch locations. RCBC was able to quickly capture and grow a new base of users. Committed to reach its goal of serving the unbanked sector of the country, especially during the pandemic, DiskarTech partnered with various government agencies to help disburse cash assistance to the most affected individuals. This partnership resulted in RCBC disbursing PHP 12.43 billion (USD260 million) to 3.3 million Filipino households covering 16.6 million individuals.RCBC also continues to partner with various private and government institutions to further widen its services. DiskarTech has already expanded its cash in and cash out partners focusing on penetrating the poorest provinces in the country. ATM Mobile Go has also been deployed in 74 of 81 provinces nationwide.
Future Direction
RCBC currently services 85% of the 20 poorest provinces in the Philippines. While this is already a huge achievement, it still envisions itself to further widen its services covering all 81 provinces bringing digital banking to the underserved and unbanked sectors of the country.We continue to be committed to our mandate. RCBC also plans to create more programs for its employees to further improve and develop their current skill sets at a time when digital is already king. The company will also continue providing digital campaigns internally that will contribute to the improvement of the overall wellbeing of its employees who are mostly working remotely due to the ongoing pandemic.
