Thai Wah has over 74 years of experience in the agriculture business and food industry in Thailand. The company operates two core businesses — tapioca starch and starch-related products, and food. Thai Wah and its related companies have ten tapioca manufacturing plants, seven of which are in Thailand, two in Vietnam and one in Cambodia.

Corporate Culture & Company Activities

Thai Wah is driven by its core purpose to serve its global consumers as they seek to create innovation and sustainability from FARMTO- SHELF. The Company has set 4 key strategies which are Sustainable Farming; Green Factory and Community; Family Work and Life Balance; and Organic Food and Healthy Food R&D. In creating and retaining talents, the Company focuses on developing knowledge and skills, providing opportunities for life-long learning, promoting career advancement, and preparing employees for changes under a working atmosphere where diversity is respected. Thai Wah has laid out a strategy for sustainable development of human resources through the implementation of a Competency Management System, which forms the foundation for corporate culture towards success. Focus is placed on communications where employees are engaged in all levels of functional competency. Thai Wah also emphasises the importance of promoting long-term community development that supports better quality of life for the Thai society. In December 2000, the Thai Wah team donated wheelchairs to people with disabilities as one of its Corporate Social Responsibility activities.

Achievements and Impact

In 2015, Thai Wah Starch (TWS) and Thai Wah Food Products (TWFP) were amalgamated. Following the move, Thai Wah expanded its operations to countries such as China, Vietnam, Cambodia and Indonesia. Currently, the Company has 15 operation bases across Asia and exports its products to over 30 countries. Following the merger, the company’s business expanded and productivity improved with digital transformation. It also undertook a brand building and awareness exercise and engaged in R&D innovation and explored new bioplastic and plant based products.

Thai Wah considers human resource development as a vital part of the Company’s long term development and considers employees as part of the “Thai Wah family”. In 2020, Thai Wah has 2,866 employees with a turnover rate of 19%. The Thai Wah Leadership Academy programme is designed to develop potential employees into a new generation of managers.

Future Direction

Moving forward, Thai Wah aims to be a major player in the global consumer food business by 2025. To achieve this target, Thai Wah established a strategic plan in 2020 which incorporates six main areas — farm development and supply chain, operating excellence and efficiency, business growth with innovation, strengthening technical sales and distribution, increasing market penetration and pursuing high growth areas and channels.
