The effects of climate change and how it affects the world we live in is no longer a concept to be learned. Rather, it is a reality we now face.

As an industry leader, Watsons Philippines recognizes its influence and responsibility in driving sustainability among its employees, customers and partner suppliers. With sustainability being a strategic imperative for the company, numerous projects and initiatives have been carried out following the 3Ps Framework – Planet, People and Product.

Planet initiatives aim to fight the climate crisis through carbon footprint reduction across the company value chain. This includes efforts to achieve zero waste to landfill and building greener stores. Besides that, special people-focused programs have also been designed to uplift the health and well-being of communities and employees under the products sustainability pillar, the company aims to provide customers with safe sustainable options with high quality.

Achievements & Impact
At present, Watsons has carried out its DO GOOD promise through various Sustainable initiatives under its 3 pillars.

The company’s efforts to reduce GHG emissions and produce less waste includes investing in renewal energy though solar panel installation across its 3 distribution centers and 65 stores nationwide, therefore reducing the carbon foot print of stores by over 300 tonnes. Reducing plastic waste be transitioning to paper bags over 90% of stores. In 2025, all stores will be using paperbags. . 48 Recycle for Reward bins have also been deployed to get customer into the habit of recycling through rewards and incentives. Lastly, they also launched the first ever Watsons Greener Store in the country that aims to bring Sustainability practices closer to customers.

As for its people-focused programs, over 700 employees have joined the Watsons Eco Tour & Tree Planting and Coastal Clean-Up events. 8 Alagang Pangkalusugan Medical Missions with over 6,600 beneficiaries nationwide have also been carried out in 2024 alone. 125 free life-changing lip and cleft palate surgeries were also made possible with Operation Smile Philippines. Lastly, scholarship opportunities are provided to women through the Pharmacy Assistant Apprenticeship Program.

As a retailer, the business aims to provide consumers with the health & products they need for everyday. Now, over 2000 Sustainable Choices products were made available for customers offline and online.
