Resorts World Manila’s 10 Years of Thrills
Resorts World Manila (RWM) is a pioneering integrated resort (IR) in the Philippines that showcases worldclass performances, multi-level recreational alternatives, global lodging brands and exciting lifestyle options. Coinciding with the beginning of the Philippine Tourism Decade that enacted Republic Act 9593 or the Tourism Act of 2009, RWM pioneered a new concept in the country that intends to showcase an array of lifestyle and entertainment alternatives for guests in one property.
The first Integrated Resort in the Philippines
When RWM opened its doors on August 28, 2009, it boasted the world-class Newport Performing Arts Theater, the upscale Newport Mall and Newport Cinemas, and the largest gaming space in the country at the time.
Conveniently located across the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3, RWM provided guests an instant gateway to the genuine Filipino hospitality complemented by world-class experiences with a Filipino touch.
Three hotel brands opened shortly after RWM began its operations. The international brand Marriott Hotel Manila opened in October 2009, followed by the all-suite Maxims Hotel in December 2010, and the practical accommodations brand Remington Hotel in November 2011. The three were only the first of many who will be welcoming guests of the country’s first IR through the years.
Then bearing the ‘Real Winner’ slogan and matching the same with unparalleled service and topnotch facilities, RWM quickly won multiple awards from the prestigious Hospitality Asia Platinum Awards (HAPA) in 2011 for its all-suite signature Maxims Hotel which was cited as the Overall Best in Asia for Service Excellence, Best in the Philippines for Service Excellence, Best 5 in Asia for Signature Serviced Residences, and Best 10 in Asia for Concierge.
In 2012, RWM went into partnerships with Starwood Hotels and with Hilton Worldwide as part of the IR’s 3rd phase expansion plans. The developments were realized early this year with the opening of Sheraton Hotel Manila and Hilton Manila at the new RWM Grand Wing. Adding to the roster of hotels that set up shop in Newport City was RWM sister company Megaworld with its own business or pleasure brands Belmont Hotel in October 2015, which won the Airport Hotel of the Year in 2018, and Savoy Hotel Manila which opened in June last year.
A bigger and better RWM
RWM re-developed Remington Hotel into the new Holiday Inn Express (HIEx) in July 2018.The InterContinental Hotel Group property is the largest HIEx in the entire Southeast Asia with 737 rooms.
RWM also houses the country’s largest ballroom which is the Marriott Grand Ballroom, and RWM’s new Grand Wing which is home to the state-of-the-art Grand Bar and Lounge and the luxury resort features of Vega Pool. This year, as RWM celebrates its 10th anniversary and has completed Phase 3 of its expansion projects, more acclaimed hotel brands are added to the property including another prominent international brand in the Japanese all-suite Okura Manila Hotel is set to open at the RWM Grand Wing.
At present, RWM is the only IR that has the most number of hotel brands in one property totaling an estimated 3,500 hotel rooms, and a total gaming area up to around 30,000 square meters from the previous 16,076, over 70 dining outlets, and more than 60 mall tenants.
Soon, RWM will also pave the way for the addition of the first Ritz Carlton hotel in the country. As the gold standard in hospitality, the Ritz Carlton brand operates a chain of upmarket hotels in over 30 countries and territories and takes its century-old history and
unparalleled commitment to RWM.

A thriving team for social entrepreneurship
For RWM’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, the company set record numbers in 2018 which can be directly attributed to more active employee engagement and communication efforts. RWM’s annual charity race Run With Me drew in more than 5,000 participants who helped raise Php3.5 million in proceeds for six beneficiary institutions. By thriving in teamwork, RWM was also successful in promoting Philippine performing arts among the youth through the Original Pilipino Performing Arts (OPPA) Foundation
scholarship program which saw a 500% increase in scholarship applicants for the year translating to a total of 36 students being granted full-opportunities to pursue their college degrees.
More RWM employees were also encouraged to engage in CSR activities via the League Of Volunteer Employees (LOVE) Grants program. With proper allocation for employee-initiated charity initiatives, the program saw a 33% increase in applications with a total of 12 charity activities being implemented for the year.
Towards a new decade of thrills
With more developments underway that suits the discerning tastes of both local and international markets, and a stronger sense of teamwork among its community of ‘Thrillmakers’, RWM is set to be the largest and most diversified integrated resort in the country in terms of gaming space, MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions) facilities, hotel brands, and leisure alternatives for retail, dining, and entertainment.
