CORPORATE EXCELLENCE

C&E Publishing, Inc.

C & E Publishing, Inc. was established in 1993 to engage primarily in the business of reprinting and distributing foreign medical and science books with acquired copyright licenses from international publishers.

With the advent of the 21st century, the company embarked on a publishing thrust and started expanding its range of titles by inviting local authors to write and publish books on various disciplines, including medicine, nursing, psychology, and law. It also published locally authored textbooks for basic education as well as trade books.

As C & E’s publication of local titles grew, the reprinting of widely prescribed foreign titles for basic and higher education and the importation of books from reputable international publishers also flourished. By doing so, it has managed to produce up-to-date, premium-quality educational products to address the needs of the reading public in general and clients from the academia in particular. Thus, C & E has positioned itself at the forefront of the Philippine book industry.

Vision and Mission
C & E is a dynamic company that envisions itself as a leading developer, publisher, and provider of globally competitive educational resources and solutions for the Philippine academic and professional markets. In pursuit of this vision, C & E is committed to providing innovative and comprehensive educational resources and solutions and continually strives to be a responsible corporate entity that balances the interests and needs of customers, stakeholders, and the community. These vision and mission are guided by the corporate values of integrity, professionalism, innovation, excellence, leadership, and social commitment.

Beyond Textbooks
Throughout its 25 years in the industry, C & E has seen how the educational landscape has changed from traditional to blended learning. Thus, as a publisher and distributor of educational resources, it has committed to providing Filipino learners with quality learning materials that enable them to cope with the challenges of the 21st century. With this, C & E launched its affiliate CE-Logic, Inc. in March 2007.

CE-Logic offers the latest interactive multimedia technology and authoritative web-based references and information services developed by trusted international publishers. From e-databases, e-books, e-journals, and other electronic resources that provide easy, paperless access to a large volume of quality content on a wide range of topics, to automation systems that promote a more convenient and more efficient way of managing libraries, CE-Logic helps improve the research and learning experience of students and teachers alike. It endeavors to modernize the library and information services in the Philippines through its partnerships with various Philippine universities and colleges.

To facilitate the development of its own educational technology solutions brand, C & E established KITE E-Learning Solutions, a division specializing in the design and creation of interactive lessons, assessment programs, multimedia products, digital publications, web-based applications, educational games, and other e-learning programs for academic institutions. It includes digitized versions of C & E’s local content.

In 2017, C & E started to venture into designing makerspaces for classrooms and libraries as part of the evolving global trend that aims to meet the demand for more varied learning spaces in pursuit of 21st-century education. This endeavor marked the birth of MAKERCE, C & E’s division specializing in designing learning commons and makerspaces that transform learning environments into more engaging venues for creation, collaboration, and innovation.

Also, C & E has partnered with trusted international solution providers with comprehensive knowledge in subject areas such as technical computing, robotics, programming, and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) and extensive experience in addressing the needs of makerspaces.

Nationwide Operations
To date, C & E owns 16 bookshops nationwide: four in Metro Manila (Quezon City, Valenzuela City, and C.M. Recto Avenue and Dapitan Street in Manila); three in North Luzon (Baguio City, Dagupan City, Tuguegarao City); two in South Luzon (Biñan City and Naga City); four in Visayas (Cebu City, Iloilo City, Tacloban City, and Bacolod City); and three in Mindanao (Cagayan de Oro City; Davao City, and Zamboanga City). For the convenience of customers, these bookshops are strategically located near schools.

C & E’s flagship store, the Information and Resource Center (IRC) located along Quezon Avenue in Quezon City offers a comprehensive display of medical, nursing, and allied health books and other titles.

The company’s management team has always been at the forefront of leading C & E to achieve its total market dominance in the book industry in all levels nationwide. Its dynamic 600 personnel play key roles in helping the company increase its market share.

Considered to be one of the best employers in the industry, C & E boasts a high employee retention rate because of its ability to provide competitive compensation and benefits packages and professional development programs. Also, C & E conducts team-building activities to promote teamwork and trust among team members and boost the morale of employees, thereby improving motivation and productivity. In addition, C & E implements 5S, a workplace organization philosophy from Japan to foster efficiency and effectiveness. The term 5s is based on the five phases based on five Japanese words beginning with the letter S: Seiri (Sort), Seiton (Set in Order), Seiso (Shine), Seiketsu (Standardize), and Shitsuke (Sustain).

Giving Back to the Community
To further promote its commitment to advancing the quality education in the Philippines, C & E established its philanthropic arm, the C & E Foundation, Inc. (CEFI) in 2010. CEFI is devoted to socio-civic work in the field of education to help transform schools into centers of academic excellence and turn indigent but deserving students into outstanding achievers.

As a non-profit organization, CEFI aims to help empower private schools catering to the poor by:

  • Organizing teacher-training activities to raise the standards of instruction and improving the development and quality of instructional materials.
  • Conducting and supporting research on quality instruction and learning materials.
  • Assisting schools and educators in complying with government curricular reforms such as the K-to-12 Basic Education Program and the Revised General Curriculum.
CEFI continues to be an exemplary model of academic support in the country. This thrust is made manifest through various activities and long-term programs such as the Book Donation Program, Empower School Program (ESP), and Teacher Training Program (TTP). Its recent projects include the book donation program for selected elementary schools in Parañaque City called “Buklat: Unang Hakbang sa Kinabukasan;” an aid program for Yolanda-hit students in Tacloban, Leyte; and a football clinic for the children of Payatas.

CEFI teams up with BDO Foundation, Kusog Tacloban to aid Yolanda-hit students. CEFI signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with BDO Foundation (BDOF) and Kusog Tacloban at the BDO Corporate Center in Makati City on November 29, 2015 to provide teachers with learning kits for kindergarten and Grade 1 pupils in areas most affected by Supertyphoon Yolanda (international name: Haiyan) in 2013.

CEFI reaches out to Payatas kids through football clinic. CEFI in partnership with Fairplay for All Foundation (FFA) shared a fun-filled day with the Payatas Football Club (FC) on January 21, 2017 at the Payatas Sports Center in Quezon City. Payatas FC is FFA’s football team for the children of Payatas.
