Carmelo T. Casas
Founder & President
As eighth of thirteen children of Dr. & Mrs. Ricardo G. Casas, Meloy grew up struggling to be recognized among the 9 boys and 4 girls in the family. From the early age of thirteen, Meloy already knew he wanted to be an Architect and follow the footsteps of his uncle and aunt who were a prominent architecture and interior design team during the early 70’s.
His parents exposed him and his siblings to the value of hard work and taught them to be God-fearing. A good education is what they could afford to offer all their children. His parents instilled in them that there should be no idle time while growing up; summers were spent working and serving others through charitable works which the parents taught by example.
Carmelo “Meloy” Casas earned his degree in Architecture from the University of Santo Tomas in 1976 and placed 7th in the 1978 Philippines board examinations for licensure in Architecture. From 1978 to 1987 he worked with various architectural firms in Hong Kong. This opened up new horizons and greater opportunities to further expand his growing portfolio and professional expertise. His experience doing work in Hong Kong, China, Singapore, and Indonesia exposed him to the global architecture arena.
In 1988 he co-founded Recio+Casas (HK) Ltd. in Hong Kong and completed major projects in Hong Kong, Macau, and Mainland China. In 1996 the firm opened a Philippine office at a time when Manila was just beginning to develop tall buildings. Their experience from abroad and expertise in architecture and interior design gave Recio+Casas an edge over competition. From there the firm flourished and became known as one of the best in the country. This partnership endured for two decades until the withdrawal of Arch. Recio from the partnership in 2008. The firm has since taken on a new identity as Casas+Architects, Inc. The dissolution of the previous partnership put Casas+Architects in the unique position of being a newborn firm with an impressive portfolio, loyal employees, and a strong client base. Over the years, the firm has emerged to be one of the biggest players in the Philippine architecture industry receiving accolades for works in Architectural Design, Interior Design, and Master Planning.
Under the leadership of Arch. Carmelo “Meloy” Casas, the firm transitioned from a partnership to a firm with a single managing partner and a new identity as Casas+Architects, Inc. What began as a modest practice with only six employees in 1990 has grown into a corporation employing a multi-disciplinary staff of 150 today. The growth reflects the high expectations and requirements of their everexpanding list of clients.
Arch. Casas firmly believes that despite globalization, the Filipino must be first priority. In 2016, Casas+Architects. Inc. opened a satellite office in Cebu to service the Visayas and Mindanao markets. Aside from expanding market reach, the firm has consistently introduced new services such as Research, Model Making, Project Management, Green Design and BIM to cater to the changing market needs. According to Arch. Meloy the future of the Philippine architecture industry is as bright as ever.
The year 2018 marked a very special occasion for the firm as it celebrated its 10th year anniversary. In the words of Arch. Casas: “I didn’t know then what the future held for us. I just prayed harder to God to be with me as I lead the firm on my own for the first time. The confidence coming from my staff helped me power through. Whenever people ask how we did it, I’d say there are only 2 elements I attribute our success to: that is passion and perseverance. It is our pure love for our profession and our passion to learn and develop our skills. Our work is not easy but for as long as we persevere, the legacy of this firm will carry on.”
Casas+Architects, Inc. has helped form the Manila skyline as we know it today. Notable contributions include shaping Bonifacio Global City into the world-class business and leisure center it is today, with structures such as Grand Hyatt/Metrobank Center, Pacific Plaza, Icon Residences, 8 Forbestown, Maybank Performing Arts Center, St. Michael the Archangel Church, and Vista Hub, among others. Among the impressive roster of accomplished works of the firm are world-class entertainment, hospitality, educational, and residential projects such as Solaire Resorts Hotel, Resorts World Manila, Balesin Island Club, the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion and the One Shangri-la Place Towers.
For all his achievements, Architect Meloy Casas is known to everyone in the office as a man of boundless passion and dedication for architecture. Spend a moment with him and you will be left dumbstruck at the keenness of his eye, the genius of his designs, and the ability by which he can understand and pinpoint exactly what a project needs. The work ethic he exhibits reveals just why he is at the top of his game. He firmly believes that “There is no short cut to attaining your dream; it’s the journey you take that will spell the difference between disappointment and success. Once you have succeeded there is no greater joy”.
In 2013, the CTC Foundation, Inc. was established for the company’s numerous social responsibility programs. The firm has produced 4 architecture graduates and is currently sponsoring 8 more college students under its scholarship grant.
