Mr. Benjamin I. Liuson is the founder and Vice-Chairman of the Board of The Generics Pharmacy (TGP), the largest drugstore chain in the Philippines. In 2001 Mr. Liuson ventured into retail starting with only one outlet and adopted the Franchising business model by 2007 at which time TGP grew to 20 outlets in Metro Manila. As of the latest count, TGP’s store network has climbed to a staggering 2,000 branches. Mr. Liuson was an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Finalist in 2010, an Agora Awardee in 2011 and is considered one of the Philippines’ most dynamic entrepreneurs. A visionary with a compassionate heart, he sits on the board of a number of non-profit organizations including: Center for Community Transformation Inc, Febias College of Bible Inc, Gospel Operation International Inc, Makati Gospel Church Inc, and Global Filipino Movement Inc. Mr. Liuson graduated from the University of the East with a degree in Business Administration and earned his MBA from the Ateneo de Manila University.

Pacific Pharma, a pharmaceutical importer and wholesaler acquired by the Liuson family in 1959. Mr. Benjamin Liuson took over the helm of DLI in 1974. He founded TGP and opened its first retail outlet, DLI Pharmacy, at Banaue in Quezon City in 2001. DLI Pharmacy carried a 100% generic medicines portfolio to cater to the growing number of patients in need of quality, affordable medicines. This was likewise in support of the generic medicines campaign that began with the Generics Act of 1988 (RA 6675) and culminated in the passing to law of the Cheaper Medicines Act of 2008 (RA 9502).

2007 marked a major milestone as DLI Pharmacy transitioned into what is now known as THE GENERICS PHARMACY. Responding to the need of a growing customer base and the tens of millions more Filipinos without access to quality healthcare, TGP as a drugstore retail outlet was born with a game-changing expansion plan. In partnership with Francorp, TGP leveraged the entrepreneurial spirit of Filipinos and pioneered its franchised business model in 2007, forever altering the Philippine healthcare landscape.

In its first three years, TGP grew by 300%, opening its 1,000th store in 2010. As doctors and patients experienced the quality and efficacy of its products, and as franchise owners realized their personal and commercial goals, TRUST was built and demand grew. As demand grew, so did the TGP doors — rapidly mushrooming nationwide from the tip of North Luzon all the way to the southernmost parts of Mindanao like Zamboanga, Cotabato and Tawi-Tawi.

In 2016, Robinsons Retail Holdings Inc (RRHI) through its subsidiary, South Star Drug, joined forces with TGP in a strategic alliance that solidified both companies’ positions in the pharma retail industry and ensured the sustained growth of TGP. TGP and South Star Drug make a formidable tandem in serving the healthcare needs of all types of patients and customers, cutting across all income segments.

With its remarkable efforts and investments in brand building, TGP today is a household name and a ubiquitous healthcare partner. From its iconic campaigns with brand ambassador Ms. Vilma Santos to the very successful new campaign with Mr. Jericho Rosales, TGP reaches out to patients of all segments and ages as the country’s pambansang pharmacy.

This year, TGP has reached an unprecedented milestone with 2000 strong stores – the largest network of drugstores in the country. This is powered by a formidable force of men and women – its Franchisees, Suppliers, Business Partners, and Employees – who believe in the founder’s vision of making quality healthcare accessible to every Filipino.

With its mabisa at abot-kayang gamot, available in now over 2,000 outlets nationwide, ang TGP ay….TGPagpagaling ng Pilipinas!
