Dr. Sunhavut Thamchuanviriya, the Group Managing Director of MGC-ASIA, which stands for Master Group Corporation (Asia), is a PhD graduate in Organization Development from Assumption University.

Growing up with a family in real estate business, Dr. Sunhavut was extensively involved with its operations. Through this experience, he developed business ideas and processes which have honed his skills towards becoming a successful entrepreneur that he is today.

At the beginning of year 2000, the hands-on executive with a solid background in managing businesses, embarked on building his automotive retail empire. Under the umbrella of MGC-ASIA, Dr. Sunhavut was awarded his first authorized BMW dealership appropriately named, Millennium Auto (MA). Shortly after the opening of its first BMW dealership, an extensive network of BMW and MINI showrooms and aftersales service centers were developed in the Bangkok area, firming up MCG-Asia’s commitment to serve the desires of its discerning customers.

Testament to the success of Dr. Sunhavut’s operational capabilities, he was awarded ‘Emerging Dealer Award’ by BMW Thailand.

A Visionaire, Dr. Sunhavut’s focus on developing networks in the premium and ultra-luxury segments led to MGC-Asia’s acquisition of luxury auto motive dealership brands such as Rolls-Royce, Aston Martin and Maserati. These premium marques are solely represented by MGC-ASIA for Thailand. Under his management, MGC-ASIA has also been honored with the ‘Young Emerging Dealership of the Year’ award by Rolls-Royce.

For luxury car segment, the BMW & MINI dealerships are still the group’s main business at 50% of overall annual group revenue. Receiving awards such as Best Performance, Highest Sales Volume in BMW and MINI and Best After-Sales Service Performances Award have been a constant affirmation of the group’s passion and commitment towards excellence.

Dr. Sunhavut understands the group’s needs in developing scale at the premium mass segment. He devoted time to cultivate MGC-Asia’s edge in this competitive segment via the acquisition of the group’s first Honda and Nissan dealerships. Summit Honda Automobile, another gem of MGC-ASIA’s portfolio, owing to the fact that its showrooms and state-of-the-art body and paint facilities based at Pattanakarn, Bangna, Udomsuk and Huamark are among Thailand’s largest and most modern facilities of its kind. Yokohama Motor is dedicated to the sales and aftersales of Nissan vehicles located in China Town.

Apart from the mentioned business areas, MGC-ASIA has expanded its business to cover an integrated range of automotive-related businesses. MGC-ASIA was appointed as the sole distributor of AC Schnitzer and TechArt premium-class tuning accessories for BMW and Porsche respectively. Another major business unit of the MGC-ASIA portfolio is its car rental business, under Master Car Rental (MCR) which handles both long-term and short-term customers, and it is a Master Licensee for Sixt rent a car (a global car rental company based in Germany) which has accredited MCR the sole-responsibility of over seven Southeast Asian markets, including Thailand.

Another venture of MGC-ASIA is Master Motor Services (MMS), which operates a complete car maintenance service center under the MMS-Bosch Car Service brand. The business focus of MMS caters to vehicles with expired warranties. There is also Maxi Insurance Broker, a leading insurance consultant which provides professional insurance services covering a variety of products such as Property Insurance, Liability Insurance, Motor Insurance, Accidental and Health Protection.

MGC-ASIA recently established the Master Automotive Training (MAT) facility, a state-of-the-art training center equipped with the technology and personnel to meet every pre-requisite of automotive retailing education. A mini-MBA program has been developed in a joint effort with the Assumption University. This unique graduate program was designed to enhance human-resource capabilities, both for MGC-ASIA and Thailand’s automotive industry. The mini-MBA program was opened to the public in 2014.

Furthermore, MGC-ASIA has created an Information Technology services provider for the automotive industry called ‘i24’, providing business processes consultation, IT services, CRM solutions and call center services for the MGC-ASIA group and external customer.

In alignment with MGC-ASIA’s developments in the ultra-luxury segment, the group was appointed as the sole distributor and authorized dealer of Azimut Yachts Thailand. Under the name of MGC Marine (Asia), this business unit provides the widest range of luxury yachts and comprehensive aftersales yachting services, covering all marinas in the East and the South of Thailand.

Over the last 16 years, Dr. Sunhavut has built the MGC-Asia’s foundation of growth, in regards to creating added value in retailing, strategic implementation for competitive strength, achieving international standards in work process, or equally important, human resources development. His ‘Synergistic Vision’ involves the concept of providing a one-stop retailing and servicing solution which covers 8 business areas including; New Car sales, Used Car sales, Car Service Centres & Parts Distribution, Car Leasing, Insurance, Process/IT/Call Center, Training Center, Marine.

In 2000, MGC-ASIA’s total revenue was at few hundred million baht. In 2016, MGC-ASIA achieved a total revenue of approximately 20 billion baht. The significant growth essentially derived from the strength of a strong and diversified business portfolio that demonstrates a highly synergized structure. Dr. Sunhavut’s 2020 strategic plan aims on leading MGC-ASIA towards becoming one of Thailand’s largest automotive retailing and servicing businesses. With an eye on expanding in AEC region, his mission is to drive MGC-ASIA towards achieving a revenue of over 50 billion baht.
