MERRY HORTICULTURE INTERNATIONAL (M) SDN. BHD.

Information about the Company
Merry Horticulture International (M) Sdn Bhd (Merry Horticulture) was founded by Mr. Marcus Tan Kok Wee in 2008. It was initially established in 1976 and was formerly known as Merry Nursery. Over the past 46 years, the company has gradually become one of the leading growers, wholesalers, traders, and exporters of tropical landscape plants. The company mainly supplies plants and landscaping materials to Malaysia, Singapore, the Middle East, Europe, Maldives, India, China, Korea, Japan, and other countries.

There has been an increase in global demand for trees and plants in order to counter global warming and carbon issue over the last 20 years. Governments and private sectors are working hand in hand to counter the alarming global warming issue. Merry Horticulture has the vision to plant more than a half trillion trees and capture about 205 gigatons of carbon (a gigaton is 1 billion metric tons), reducing atmospheric carbon by about 25 percent.

The company is on a mission to “Greening the World for Future Generations”. For years, Merry Horticulture has been offering government bodies, landscapers, and designers great services and real benefits by being able to supply huge varieties of high-quality trees and plants. Additionally, for the years to come, the company strives to maintain its reputation and further improve its quality.

Innovative Corporate Culture & Initiatives
Merry Horticulture is actively expanding its production facility and engaging with contract growers to meet the huge demand and order. The company engages in advanced production methods in order to enhance cost efficiency. Today, the need for a healthy green environment pushes its need to expand its nursery in order to keep pace with the growing demand globally.

Shipping and transporting life plants overseas is a very challenging task. The company needs to apply very special methods to ensure that the plants arrive in good condition after long-distance shipments. However, the company is armed with years of experience and techniques to carry out the task successfully.

Merry Horticulture is constantly testing and exploring the best ways to produce and transport live plants all over the world through exploring new technologies in plant growth and shipping perishable life plants.
Achievements & Impact
Merry Horticulture became the most established plant export company in Malaysia. Since 2005, the company has been the pioneer in exporting plants by penetrating the Middle East, Japan, Korea, and Europe markets.

The company’s achievements include, setting up hydroculture facilities in 2000 to cater to the Singapore Hydroculture plants market. Merry Horticulture has also supplied iconic projects like Garden By the Bay and Apple Store Marina Bay Sands, the Qatar Hamad Airport Expansion projects, and Malaysia’s 100 million trees projects.

Merry Horticulture acquired a landscape company in Singapore to move upstream in the industry. The company works closely with Jabatan Landscape Negara Malaysia, Nparks (Singapore Government), and the Saudi Arabia Government for their future projects. The company also introduces new species and new products for the market.

For years, Merry Horticulture has been extremely careful in managing its company expansion program and cash flow. The company knows that over-optimism is not a good thing in the business world and it is blessed that it had managed to survive the Covid-19 pandemic.

The pandemic had changed the entire economic landscape of the business world. High inflation, shipping costs, and labor issue have caused many big companies to close down due to over-expansion and bad cash flow management. However, Merry Horticulture understands that a worse economic situation might be on the way, thus the company is still very conservative in how it runs its business and will only take calculated risks.

Future Direction
Merry Horticulture intends to venture into the Singapore landscape industry by acquiring a landscape company in the country. The company also plans to be working closely with various municipal departments in Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Doha, Kuwait, and Bahrain for its future development plans.

The company will keep working closely with NPARKS Singapore for its future development plans and with Jabatan Landscape Negara Malaysia for its domestic market. In the future, Merry Horticulture also plans to venture into the high-quality indoor plants and high-tech gardening products market.
