The Founder of Castwell Industries (M) Sdn Bhd, Mr. Wong Yoon Chee, was born in Kampar, Perak. “Everyone should have a comfortable place to live, work and play”, the company philosophy conveyed exactly the hope of Mr. Wong, a pioneer builder specialises in IBS and modular building construction system in Malaysia.

Graduated from the University of Portsmouth in UK with the Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Degree, the founder started his career with an outsource company as a Production Engineer in year 1998. It was the same year when the economy crisis happened and caused a lot of challenges to Wong however these are what he appreciates today because he treats challenges as an opportunity to success. So “think out of the box”, this is what the founder always advised. Mr. Wong’s core value is “positive thinking”.

Since its formation in 2006 as a metal sheet fabricator, Castwell, has never stopped producing innovative products. Its success in using industrialised building system (IBS) technology in the construction of school buildings, has laid strong foundation for it to expand into modular construction, a modern building construction technique that is currently ubiquitous in many Western or developed countries. Established in 2006, Castwell started its operations on a 700 sqm area as its first office and factory in Balakong, Selangor. The main business focus was manufacture server racking system, indoor and outdoor cabinet, customised steel products and fabrication works.

Under Mr. Wong’s leadership, Castwell was awarded with its first IBS Modular Project for Kota Masai in Johor in 2007. This IBS system was later being recognised by the Minister of Education. In the same year, Castwell started its mass production journey of IBS Modular System. In order to cater to the mass production and increasing market demand, the area of Castwell premise which consists of operation office and factory was progressively extended from 1,500 sqm in year 2008 to 7,500 sqm in the next year and extended again to 15,000 sqm in year 2010. On 24 December 2013, Castwell premise was relocated to its own land in Kajang, a total area of 30,000 sqm space was converted to be its existing headquarter office cum factory.

Being the first company in Malaysia recognised by CIDB (or Construction Industry Development Board) as “Modular Construction Company” in 2015, it has grown from strength to strength. It has won the Best Camp Award in 2016 at Petronas’ RAPID Project, Pengerang, Johor with 1 million hours without LTI (or Lost Time Injury) for Petrofac Engineering & Construction. It has also won the Golden Bull Award. It achieved another major milestone when 16 blocks of four storey workers accommodation for Samsung Engineering was completed within 7 months in 2017. Last year, the Company was involved in over 50 schools upgrading projects throughout the country, whereby about 400 new classrooms and its amenities were built using Castwell IBS technology. Now, Castwell has been well-known in the Government sector for its construction systems under the leadership of Mr. Wong, the next company goal is set to enter the private sector with the intention to turn Mr. Wong’s personal hope, which now serves as the company philosophy, into reality.

Castwell’s construction systems is designed to ensure time and cost effectiveness while ensuring the project site safety. The company depends on environment and customer requirement to propose the most suitable construction system. Building that apply the modular system will be completed off-site in unit and to be delivered to the construction site for installation. IBS construction system will be applied to the building that to be constructed at some challenging environments and site locations. Castwell was also awarded the Manufacturing Excellent Awards by Sin Chew and the Lang International Award.

Personal Believe

There were some personal believes built-up through Mr. Wong’s experiences over the years and they were later turned into the company core values as Castwell established. The values were namely: Strength, we must keep strengthen our self and grow; Persistence, we should never be afraid of challenges and failures; Patience, we must believe in our own capabilities; and Excellence, we must strive to be the best.

Mr. Wong’s believe of a “Simple and Better” way of construction drives the team at Castwell to continuously innovate and improve. Under his leadership, the company was able to deliver construction projects with speed and high quality leveraging its proprietary technology that is unrivalled in the market.
