Introduction

Pusat Latihan Memandu Shah Bandar Sdn Bhd (“PLMSB”) is among the largest Driving Institute in Klang, Shah Alam area and has been in operation since 1997. PLMSB provides Driver License Training Courses using its fleet of about 100 vehicles in different vehicle categories such as Motor Cycle, Light Motor Vehicle (Car), Lorry, Trailer, and Tractor.

Around one million students have acquired their driving licenses from PLMSB since its inception. PLMSB has over 80 qualified instructors of different races who can instruct the students in their primary language, making it easier for them to take their drivers training.

PLMSB’s premises is equipped with numerous public service facilities. These include registration area, cafeteria, lecture theatres, simulator training, a state of the art training circuit where students can practice parking, uphill starts and other elements of vehicle control before venturing on to the public road system.

The Company is managed by a very strong and profound management team. Mr. Samuel B. J Tan is the CEO of PLMSB. He has more than 30 years of proven leadership and management experience, in areas of operation & facilities management, human resources & administration, local authorities, pastoral care & counselling, security & safety, and sales & marketing.

PLMSB aims to be the best choice driving centre in Klang Valley by providing high quality, convenient and comprehensive driver education courses at the lowest cost. To the team, the most important aspect of driver education is “safety”. The Company holds by its core values of teamwork, honesty, integrity, adding value, and excellence.

With the advent of Industry 4.0, PLMSB is embarking on a journey of digital and technological adoption. In 2017, it acquired a new computer system called E-Driving Software which is tailor-made for driving centres where it is mandatory for all teachers and students to “thumb-in” and
“thumb-out” their finger print prior to and after their driving lesson, thus maintaining proper control and documentation. Furthermore, the Company is registered with Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan’s (JPJ) ‘Portal Rakan Niaga mySIKAP’, where they are able to perform JPJ transactions on-line.

Corporate Social Responsibility

Every year PLMSB conducts seminars and trainings on road safety in secondary schools, colleges, universities and business organisations in order to raise road safety awareness among the public. Some of the Company’s previous CSR project include: Mylesen siri 1.0, Mylesen 2.0 promotion at schools in Selangor, and Program Mesra Rakyat.

Achievements and Impact

Some of PLMSB’s achievements include being chosen by the Sultan of Selangor out of 22 driving institutes in the State as the driving institute for the Raja Muda Negeri Selangor, Tengku Amir Sultan Sharafuddin to obtain his Driving Licence.

Future Direction

Currently, the Company is ready to expand and the keys to success over the next three years for such an endeavor are: to achieve annual sales revenues of approximately RM6 million by year three; to lower costs so that the company’s gross profit margin increases to 30%; expand by starting up six more branches (Pejabat Pendaftaran Calon) in Shah Alam, Subang Jaya, Kelana Jaya, Jalan Batu Tiga, Puchong; to become the low cost provider of comprehensive driving education services in the Klang Valley; to appoint a cost control officer for each of the new facilities who is responsible to the Chief Executive Officer; to strengthen and pursue partnerships and strategic alliances with suppliers so as to further reduce costs; to aggressively pursue contracts with organisations who need our services such as local authorities, high schools and trucking agencies; to implement a new automated system for driving tests (E-testing) by 2020; and lastly, to strive to achieve and maintain JPJ 5-star rating for its institution.
