Mr Simon Wong started working in shipping industry back in year 1998 when he was merely turned 20 years old. That was a toughest time as a new entrance to the industry as it was during the Asian Financial Crisis.
Since then, Mr Simon Wong found his passion in this industry and has decided to ventures into setting out his own company, Venthill Sdn Bhd. It was on the month of June 2002 that he started this company with his childhood friend, Mr Ray Tan. Venthill Sdn Bhd started operation by providing ocean freight & air freight services.
At his young age, it has not been an easy path for Mr Simon Wong to sustain in the market especially with the slow pace of economy recovery from the financial crisis. To overcome the challenging market condition, he needs to works very hard to gain the trust of the customers to handle their cargoes. At the early stage of his career, Mr Simon Wong basically put in over 12 hours of work daily. During normal working hours, he usually do sales by visiting customers and vendors. He gains the trust from the customers by practicing the values he held dear to his believe. These values are commitment, integrity, perseverance, transparency and passionate.
Despite the hectic workload and daily schedule, Mr Wong believed in a balance life style that keep him healthy and happy. Year 2008 was an important life turning point for him. His first son was born but the joyfulness was immediately turned to worrisome and heartbreak for him. The new born was diagnosed with breathing problem due to immaturity of his lung. Eventually, with the blessing of the almighty, everything turned out to be fine. It was during this difficult and trying period of his family that he realized that health is more important than anything else. Since than he has been living a very healthy lifestyle with daily exercise for a minimum of one hour. He has also pick up his childhood hobby of playing badminton. Mr Simon Wong could be seen in badminton court at least 6 days a week playing with his friends, formal Malaysian World Champion. Recently, he took up swimming lesson with his 2 boys and developed a keen interest in swimming.
His first partner in business and the co-founder of Venthill Sdn Bhd is Mr Ray Tan. Both of them has been best friend since childhood and share not only keen interest in their company but also many hobbies. Both are talented photographers which took them to many outdoor locations together to capture nature beauty with their cameras. They also share common interest in music and form a band with others. Mr Wong always reminded everyone around him that he owes his success to Mr Tan not only in business but also personal development.
Today Mr Simon Wong has clocked a milestone of being 15 years of running the business as the Founder and Group CEO of the Group, Mr Simon Wong place great emphasis in human resource development and ensuring all staff is well trained and adhered to the same core values to serve the customers.
With all the blessings in life, Mr Simon Wong is a firm believer of giving back to society. He and his company have pledged to some of the charity organizations with good cause. One Organization that is always has special place in his heart is the SPASTIC CHILDREN’S ASSOCIATION OF SELANGOR & FEDERAL TERRITORY. During one of his visit for physiotherapy of his sport injury, he encountered a group of spastic Children while passing thru the corridor that linked to the center that he intended to visit, a plate suddenly fall on him as the children unable to control his movement. One of the physician immediately came over and apologized to Mr Simon Wong. Due to curiosity, he had a long conversation with the physician and started to understand this illness and the needs of the organization that is specialized in training these children.
As a frequent traveler due to business requirement, Mr Wong stays in hotel regularly. One might find him collecting all the toiletries before he checked out of the hotel. He usually bring his own toiletries and do not use the complementary toiletries from the hotel. He collected all these complementary toiletries and donating all to the Orang Asli Community. This act was eventually known to all his partners and senior management team and since becoming a practice of all his team of management.
As year goes by, Venthill expended its activities with the trust from customers and the increase of its customers based. Venthill expended its business into handling of oversize cargo which unable to load into container box. Handling oversize cargoes and heavy-lift cargoes became his strength and unique skill set that was and still the best in the industry.
Year 2013 was yet another milestone of the company, Venthill started to invest in transportation with its own fleet of trucks / trailers which carry container and loose cargo covering the whole of the peninsular of Malaysia. Their main transportation hub is strategically located in Pulau Indah just next to the biggest port terminal in Malaysia. With this strategies location, the company able to commit the highest service level with lower operation cost to maintain the competitiveness in the market. In year 2014, Venthill Sdn Bhd have invested into a Korean Shipping Company. In the following year, with this joint venture company purchased a vessel with Deadweight 9000MT and registered name as MV Rainbow Symphony; name after one of our subsidiary company Hallmark Symphony Sdn Bhd.
Today, the company has chartered and managing more than 10 vessels covered Asia Pacific and CIS regions. The company offers wide range of vessel chartering for different kind of cargoes such as agricultural products / construction materials / natural soils and etc. The company customized services of chartering vessel to customers and meet the requirement such as voyage chartering, period chartering (time charter), contractual chartering (COA) as well part cargo chartering (combine cargo).
Venthill have successfully undertaken many projects to deliver construction materials for multi-billion mega infrastructure projects such as waste plant, bridge and road building as well as delivering imported factory and assembly lines for mega manufacturing plants. Some key manufacturing plants that the company has provided logistics services including, solar panel production factory, fiber glass manufacturing production factory. Some of the mega projects that Venthill provides logistics services are Sarawak Energy Kanowit High Tension Cable extension plan, TNB Pengerang Site, ultra-hi-tech bridge at Terengganu, Hotels in Penang, Melaka and Kuala Lumpur, waste plant in Kuantan just to name a few.
Venthill is a licensed haulage and custom broker with own licenses issued to the company by the Malaysian authorities. Enabling the company to provide in house services throughout the whole spectrum of the logistics function with very competitive cost as all key functions are owned and operated within the company.
