Bhd.
For nearly 30 years, Dato’ Sri Ir. Peter Lu has ridden the highs and lows of entrepreneurship as a never-ending parade of challenges, accomplishments, setbacks and hurdles to be overcome. Building his company, Powerpoint, has been a wild ride; never knowing what is around the corner, yet always on the lookout for new opportunities and challenges. Dato’ Sri Ir. Peter Lu has a strong will to success and has continuously taken up challenges as he had a vision and he is prepared to see it through.
As a little boy brought up in a poor village without electricity, water and road; Dato’ Sri Ir. Peter Lu together with his twelve siblings helped their parents in all types of work that one can never imagine, in order to sustain the family. This childhood hardship and adverse living environment have shaped him to be mentally tough, spiritually rich, and physically strong in all aspect. It is also the driving force that gear him to achieving the impossible dream.
Since childhood, Dato’ Sri Ir. Peter Lu is determined to strive for the best in whatever he does. Growing up in a poor family, education is a luxury. But Dato’ Sri never gives up. He worked very hard and obtained scholarships throughout his educational journey. He has always been the top student and has completed his tertiary education in England with a Master Degree in Engineering (M.Sc.) from Leeds University in the mid-70s and has later registered as a Professional Engineer. Along the way, he has learnt some valuable lessons that have shaped his view on entrepreneurship and building successful businesses.
Dato’ Sri Ir. Peter Lu is ready to move to the next level of his dream and become an entrepreneur in the late 80s. This create a new milestone of his life journey.
Dato’ Sri Ir. Peter Lu has spent his life looking for opportunities and challenges. The very first opportunity he seized in his career is to work in the Oil and Gas industry in Singapore as a mechanical engineer, supervising the offshore engineering projects. These projects involved supervising design, fabrication, testing and commissioning of entire works till handover to the client such as Shell. It also includes production, drilling, chemical injection platform, mooring system (SALM 1st of its kind in the world, then) and many more.
With the belief of continuous improvement and endless learning, he was then moved into downstream activities to acquaint himself and broaden his working knowledge in contribution to the oil and gas terminals, operating, refinery, and maintenance of the refinery with Mobil, Singapore. This completed his cycle of oil and gas venture from exploration, production, and refining to the final finished products i.e. diesel, gasoline and other related products.
To realize his dream as an entrepreneur, he believed it was now time to change his career path and moved into commercial line taking up another challenge as a Branch manager, and became the General Manager of GEC, the biggest company in electrical industry in the 1980s. He became overall-in-charge of the company. Dato’ Sri Ir. Peter Lu has successfully and professionally managed the branch office; and with such excellent business record, the head office has requested for him to set up branches countrywide, introducing new technology to the industry. GEC was a well-respected company, and has contributed hundreds of millions of business to our Malaysia GDP growth, as well as creating employment opportunities for the locals. With all these exposure and experiences gained from both Singapore and Malaysia, Dato’ Sri Ir. Peter Lu is ready to move to the next level of his dream and become an entrepreneur in the late 80s. This create a new milestone of his life journey. There is never a simple “path to success”, or a set of rules guaranteed to push you and your business to the forefront of your industry, but there are always lessons and examples from those who have come before us.
