Mr. Thilak Weerasinghe, founder Chairman of Lanka Sportreizen is a well reputed and established entrepreneur in Sri Lankan hospitality industry today whose vision and business acumen are combined with his spirit of contributing towards the development of Tourism sector in Sri Lanka.

Born in 1960, Mr. Weerasinghe is an extraordinarily dynamic, conscientious, self-motivated and self-made successful entrepreneur. Hard working, reliable & resourcefulness with leadership skills and excellent organizational and human resources management skills combined with the ability to priorities a substantial workload are the contributory factors for his business achievements. He is highly innovative, creative, and selfmotivated entrepreneur with a great enthusiasm and determination to secure and ensure a progressive group of companies in the hospitality industry.

Over the past 27 years, Mr. Weerasinghe has successfully piloted the LSR Group and its highly diversified tourism and sports related activities with a range of services which include Inbound Tour Operation, Outbound Tour Operation, Hotel Operation, Event Management, Water Sports, Layover Operations for Sri Lankan Airlines and Transport Operation for Tourism.

From schooldays, Mr. Weerasinghe has excelled in many sport activities specially in water-based sports activities. For his credit, Mr. Weerasinghe has won the championship award for the best windsurfer in Sri Lanka and he has undergone training in many sports related activities in Germany and Switzerland.

In 1982, Mr. Weerasinghe commenced business operations by establishing a water & nature-based sports centre and training school. In 1989, he established Lanka Sportreizen as a travel agency and registered with Ceylon Tourist Board as a specialist in water and nature-based activities. Since then LSR through its group companies has grown rapidly and expanded into many areas of the leisure industry from inbound tour operations to entire spectrum of tourism related activities. Today, LSR Group is well grown and highly diversified into many sub sectors within the Tourism Industry in Sri Lanka.

Under Inbound Tour Operations, LSR provides tour programs specializing in general tours, adventure, nature trails, diving/ water sports (such as scuba diving, wind surfing, water skiing, white water rafting, deep sea fishing & sailing) mountain biking, hiking, cultural/religious travel programs, special interest programs (nature tours, agro tours, cave exploration, tours by rail, folk dances, traditional Sri Lankan weddings) MICE Travel/ Tours etc.

Based on the volume of operations, LSR is within the five largest inbound tour operators in Sri Lanka. The major strength of LSR driven by Mr. Weerasinghe is the professional excellence and experience gained over three decades in the Tourism Industry. The total strength of the LSR group’s multi-disciplinary staff is around 500 personnel. Today, the LSR Group is well positioned to provide comprehensive service package through proper integration and appropriate blend of entire spectrum of tourism related activities.

Under the guidance and leadership of Mr. Weerasinghe, LSR Group has specialized in water sports activities. The group currently owns and operates two water sport centers in Bentota (Marina Bentota and Passikudah (Marina Passikuda) which are well equipped with modern equipment and constantly being upgraded. These two water sports centers are recognized as a 5-star Gold Palm Resort in Sri Lanka by the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI). LSR was the platinum sponsor and technical service provider for the wind surfing championship competitions held in Arugam Bay in the east coast in 2010 and 2011. LSR has also functioned as the sponsor and technical expertise provider for Surfing events held in Hikkaduwa and several other locations in the country.
