Ms. Loretta Lee is the Chairlady of Canvest Environmental Protection Group Company Limited (“Canvest”). A vibrant leader, Loretta faces the exciting task of turning opportunities into business reality within China’s developing waste-to-energy (“WTE”) market, successfully transforming waste into a listed company with HK$10 billion market capitalization. Both a dreamer and an opportunist, Loretta envisions leading a pioneering environmental protection enterprise as a means to improve the living environment in China. Under Loretta’s leadership, Canvest has successfully quadrupled its WTE portfolio, proudly ranked number one in the Guangdong province by operating capacity, and expanded presence covering Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Guizhou Province, Jiangxi Province and Sichuan Province.
On 29 December 2014, Canvest was successfully listed on the Main Board of the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong. Since listing, the company has been delivering stellar financial and operational results by consistently achieving over 30% growth in net profit and meeting the target growth rate of 30% in its contracted daily processing capacity.
In January 2015, Canvest was selected as a constituent of Hang Seng Infrastructure Index, Hang Seng Global Composite Index, Hang Seng Composite Index, Hang Seng Composite Industry Index – Utilities and Hang Seng Composite SmallCap Index. In December 2016, Canvest was selected as one of the eligible stocks included in Southbound trading through Shenzhen-Hong Kong Stock Connect. In 2017, Canvest was included in Forbes China’s ‘2017 Forbes China Up-and-Comers List: Best Listed Companies Category’.
Canvest is committed to maintaining close and timely communication with the investment community. Canvest had won numerous awards at HKIRA’s Investor Relations Awards for the third consecutive year, including “Overall Best Investor Relations Company’ and “Best IR by Chairman”. The accolades demonstrate Canvest’s continuous outstanding performance and the support and recognition from the investment community of the efforts of the Company and of Loretta.
‘China government initiated that Lucid Waters and Lush Mountains are Invaluable Assets. I could not agree more. Canvest is not just a business or a ten billion dollar company, it is a platform for me to do more for the environment and for my home country.’ Loretta said.
Despite the success of Canvest, managing the business can be tough. Fierce competition and “not in my back yard” attitude of the general public can cause difficulties and tremendous pressure, but Loretta believes in facing adversities with a positive attitude. Loretta cheerfully commented, “Of course the road to success is never easy. You just need to tell yourself there ought to be a solution somewhere, and then go look for it. Tell your team the same and then go find the solution together, never give up easily.”
Outside the office, Loretta enjoys doing sports with her family, such as hiking, swimming and running. ‘Sports are always the best way to nurture perseverance, which is one of the keys to success. During our company’s hiking competition, I was the winner of the women’s group.’
Go Green, Be Responsible
“The philosophy of Canvest is to value environmental protection and social responsibilities while achieving economic benefits. As one of the leading WTE operators in China and a responsible enterprise, we feel obliged to lead the change to build a sustainable society for the future.” Loretta emphasized. Canvest has always been focusing on enhancing the efficiency in resource utilization and environmental performance of its projects through technological upgrade and quality assurance process. Canvest adopts state-of-the-art and advanced technologies and equipment to ensure that the WTE plants meet or even exceed the latest emission standards, achieving “zero emission” and becoming a “blue factory”.
By developing garden-like factory environment and keeping an open door policy for site visit, Canvest has set a good example in the WTE industry. It is dedicated to raising awareness of environmental protection in society, and it encourages its staff to practice low carbon living.
“The path of being an Entrepreneur is never easy, but it is the best way for you to explore opportunities and reap the harvest. I see potentials in the WTE industry. That’s why I am here and why Canvest is here.”
Canvest Environmental Protection Theme Pavilion in Dongguan was opened in 2018, it is one of the largest pavilions in China with environmental themes established for environmental protection education purpose.
‘The path of being an Entrepreneur is not easy, but it is the best way to explore opportunities and reap the harvest. I see potentials in the environmental protection industry. This is why I am here and Canvest is here,’ said Loretta. Embracing challenges is the one of the most common traits found in Entrepreneurs; Loretta clearly enjoys solving problems as a source of energy to keep pushing forward and building Canvest as a fastestgrowing enterprise.
