Alan Ang is a true entrepreneur at heart. While studying Mathematics in NUS, he has been devoting more time than studying to try different occupation and even started 2 small businesses in Bugis to hone his entrepreneur experience and skills. In order to gain even more work experience to have an edge over his peers, he worked up to 6 jobs at one time during his study.
After his graduation, he shun from the typical 9-5 deskwork which most of his tertiary mates chose, fearing that the security and routineness will dull his senses and set himself into a life of contentment. So instead, he chose to join the travel industry, starting a job from the bottom as a sales staff and a tour leader to bring customers overseas. His previous experience and acute thinking quickly brought him to a management level within 4 years in 2 different companies.
Soon, Alan realised the out-dated immutable practices of the industry will surely be paving a downhill path. Not gaining the freedom to act by his employer and was even being oppressed, Alan realised that he has to gain his own control in order to make a difference. At the age of 28, Alan setup EU Holidays with another partner Mr Wong forming then the only Europe specialised travel agency in Singapore.
Although Alan is the Managing Director, steering the direction and business plan of the company, but as a young entrepreneur, he was also multi-tasked as the products development, sales, marketing, operations and accounting person for the company during the startup period, involved in every aspect of building up the company. He championed the idea of “quality Europe tours, at affordable price” which was well received by the market. And as the “chief designer” of the product team of EU Holidays, he also brought in many new ideas to the market, like the exclusive sledging snow fun on Swiss Alps, and the famous 2 seasons in 1 holiday tour packages.
In defiance of the common perception and after many trials, EU Holidays finally managed to establish itself as one of the leading leisure travel agencies in Singapore and expanded its coverage to other destinations like Americas, Oceanic and Africa etc. Guided by the principle of employing driven, dynamic and innovative individuals, Alan have always place talent as the top priority for the expansion of EU Holidays.
Founded in late 2010, EU Holidays was led by with the sole intention of offering customers a whole new travel experience, which is the main driving force behind the establishment of EU Holidays. Within five years of business operations, we have expanded EU Holidays and opened up three other subsidiary offices to focus on the various needs of our customers. The EU MICE office was set up in 2013 to cater for corporate travel with a focus on corporate meetings, incentives, conventions and events. In that same year, EU Asia was launched to cater for customers who are interested in travelling within Asia. In the following year, we opened up EU Vacations to serve the Malaysian market. In doing so, EU Holidays strives to constantly improve our products and services so that we can better serve our customers.
Achievement
Staff strength grow from the initial 5 persons small team to the big team now over 100 staff in Singapore. The customers base also grow from less than 1,000 travellers in 2010 to more than 20,000 travellers in 2017. The fast growth is attributed to Alan’s courage to venture into unknown frontier, his never-say-die attitude and his vision for the future. His personal charm and easy-going personality, let him mix well and interact well with his staff. This also helps the company to recruit and retain talents more easily. Alan is a very trusting boss. He gives guidance to his staff and then allows them the freedom and ownership to do their jobs. He believes in personal growth of every individual staff and the staff must also enjoy the working atmosphere in the office. He is wellknown by the staff as Mr nice guy and always put on a smiling face when approached by the staff. He also spends his private life to go out for food and drinks with the staff, and even travel overseas with his staff.
