Bangkok Chain Hospital Public Company Limited (“BCH”) has been operating private hospitals since 1984, up until now it becomes one of the leading operators in healthcare services and the largest service provider under Social Security Scheme in Thailand. Currently, BCH owns and operates twelve hospitals and one polyclinic under four hospital groups; 1. World Medical Hospital, 2. Kasemrad International Hospital, 3. Kasemrad Hospital, and 4. Karunvej Hospital. BCH strives to efficiently operate its business and enhance quality of the chained hospitals and medical staffs to be in line with international standard in order to build local and international patients’ confidence and maintain their satisfaction.

BCH’s vision is to be one of the leaders in healthcare service industry in Thailand and Southeast Asia.

In the next five years, BCH sets goals in accordance with the strategic plan to increase revenue’s growth at the rate 10 – 15% as well as to increase net profit margin to be at the level 12 – 15% per annum. To achieve the target, the Company has strategic plans as follows:

  • Enhancement of the hospital’s standard
    • BCH has been renovating the hospital branches’ facilities as well as improving its operational processes for their better efficiency
    • BCH shall arrange the training courses for staffs to improve their skills to be in line with an enhancement of the hospitals’ standard
  • Enhancement of the hospitals to be the patients’ referral centers
    • To be in line with the hospital’s standard enhancement, the company shall manage to add medical specialty centers into the hospitals which located in the strategic locations eg. Heart Center and Imaging Center. The medical specialty centers shall be opened at Kasemrad International Hospital Rattanathibeth, Kasemrad Hospital Sriburin, Kasemrad Hospital Chacheongsao and Kasemrad Hospital Ramkamhaeng in order to upgrade them to be the referral centers for patients from each region in Thailand.
  • Local and international business expansion
    • BCH shall expand five more hospital branches both locally and internationally in order to increase its service coverage for cash patients, patients under social security scheme and patients around the borders. In the next three years, the company shall open 1. Kasemrad Hospital Ramkamhaeng (in 2018) 2. Kasemrad Hospital Chiang-Khong (in 2019) 3. Kasemrad Hospital Sa-Kaeo (in 2020) 4. Kasemrad Hospital Prachinburi (in 2020) and 5. Kasemrad International Hospital Vientiane (in 2020).
  • Re-branding of the hospitals through marketing strategies and introduction of the new brand to increase market segmentation
    • In 2017, BCH introduced the new hospital brand “Kasemrad International Hospital” in order to increase its market segmentation for the upper mid-tier market. In addition, the new perception of World Medical Hospital shall be re-built through the marketing campaigns Eg. Running Charity Events, Best Job in Thailand, and Health relief for monk etc.
    • Hospitals’ re-branding shall be implemented for the brand “Karunvej”. After the hospitals under Karunvej Brand obtained the highest level of Hospital Accreditation, they shall be changed to Kasemrad Hospital to serve middle income cash patients and patients under social security scheme.

BCH was incorporated in 1993 through the restructuring from the previous company that operated Kasemrad Hospital Bangkae since 1984. Later, BCH had established five more hospitals before listing into the Stock Exchange of Thailand in 2004. In 2013, BCH opened World Medical Hospital as a new hospital brand to target high-end patients. In the following year, BCH also introduced a new hospital brand named “Karunvej” as a transitory brand for a newly acquired hospital which its standard is not up to the level of Kasemrad Hospital. In 2015, BCH had acquired one hospital in Eastern Region in order to start the expansion route to the East of Thailand. In the same year, BCH opened one more hospital named “Karunvej Hospital Rattanatibeth” to support the rebranding of Kasemrad Hospital Rattanatibeth to Kasemrad International Hospital Rattanatibeth and the shift of patients’ base.

Corporate Activities
1. World Medical Hospital, one of BCH’s hospital chain, launched the campaign called “Best Job in Thailand” and job position called “happiness observer”. We believed that in order to enhance the most effective treatment for the patient to get a full recover weren’t just about the physical aspect of care in the hospital. If we were able to understand what was going on with the patients’ mental health, we could enhance the recovery speeds. The winner of this campaign, Ms. Nicharee Peneakchannasak was a student who lost her both legs in a train accident in Singapore, received a 6 months contract with 1 million baht salary. 2. BCH led by the management team hosting “Kasemrad Super Run” Fit Heart with BCH. The donation was contributed to Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Foundation under Rajavithi Hospital for young kids and to contribute on building the 100 Years of Meditation Practice Building for Somdet Phra Nyanasamvara in Nakornpathom province. In the same year, the Company has donated AED machine and gave out the scholarship to students at Mahidol University.

Succession Plan & Objective
The management acknowledges that a good succession plan enables a smooth transition with less likelihood of disruption to operations. Thus, the management planned for their successors from the beginning to have the diversity of educational backgrounds in each of their child. The eldest, who currently hats the position of Chief Operating Officer, graduated with doctor of medicine. The middle, who currently hats the position of Chief Marketing Officer, graduated with Master of Marketing. And, the youngest who currently hats the position of Chief Financial Officer, graduated with a Master of Finance.

By planning well in advance BCH can maximize the value of business and enable it to meet future situation.

Workplace Practices
Human resource management is one of the crucial aspects. With the expectation to increase staff satisfaction, employee productivity and reduce staff turnover rate, BCH has been conducting different activities such as annual sport day, monthly staffs’ birthday party, team building program for department head, annual check-up and regular training.

One of the crucial aspects is to improve staffs’ mindset. Mindset defines the quality of work and outcome especially in the service industry like hospital. BCH wants to make sure that the staffs are treated as a family member and feel like they are at home even they are at work.

In order to improve staffs’ mindset, BCH constantly provides the training program to implant a positive mindset for them to pour their heart out servicing our patients. Furthermore, it is also crucial for our staffs to understand the patients’ emotion that come for the treatment. Because the patients will need the emotional support as well as the physical support while getting the treatment and service at our hospital.

For sustainability and hospital development, BCH sets the annual goals and action plans on the aspects of internal process improvement and efficiency, customer satisfaction, staff satisfaction, additional business units, revenue growth and profit margin development. On a monthly basis, BCH regularly conducts monthly meeting to review if the actions go as planned as well as if the goals are achieved. Furthermore, BCH conduct the annual audit to oversee the compliance of rules and regulation set by management and also exchanging services’ experiences across hospitals. Lastly, BCH constantly collects patients’ feedback through the satisfaction survey to improve the services and hospital standard.
