In August 2017, Mandy won the Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship Awards in the Hospitality and Tourism Industry. The award, better known as APEA, is a regional recognition program organized by Enterprise Asia, the region’s foremost association and think-tank for entrepreneurship. The Awards are presented to a select handful of entrepreneurs across Asia Pacific each year. The Awards is often compared to the Olympics for the stringent entry criteria and highly competitive judging parameters. The nomination is by-invitation only with each nominee subjected to a rigorous judging process, including financial verification by an appointed audit firm and mandatory physical site audit and interview.
Top 10 of Malaysia also honored Mandy with the award for Malaysia’s Most Admired Hotelier. To kick start 2018, on the 16th of January, Mandy won Female Entrepreneur of the Year - Special Mention, at the SOBA 2017 Awards, organized by the Star Media Group. In addition to that, the CMO Asia Awards 2018 presented Mandy with the Most Admired CEO of the Year Award, under its Award for Excellence in Hotel Industry category.
In tandem with Lexis Hotel Group’s tagline ‘Hospitality Is Our Passion’, Mandy believes in instilling her team members to do things with zeal, and to think positively. With a workforce exceeding 1,400 in Negeri Sembilan alone, Lexis Hotel Group is easily the largest hospitality chain in the state, providing job opportunities to the locals from entry right through management levels.
“When we love what we do, it becomes less of a ‘job’ and more of an enthusiastic venture. We strive to bring our individual expertise, creativity and passion together as a team.” While opportunities are given to groom and mould the younger employees, staffs who have been with Lexis for a long time are given due recognition and justifiably rewarded. These, according to Mandy, are just some of the many ways Lexis retain its pool of talents.
Mandy is also a firm believer in supporting the local community where the resorts are located. Whenever possible, local produce such as kuih (snack and sweets) and fruits as well as seafood from the nearby fishermen are sought and in turn used by the chefs in the resorts for their daily meal preparation. This practice ensures a harmonious co-existence and the welfare of the resorts’ surrounding communities are well taken care of.
As an entrepreneur with a heart, Mandy always believe in giving back to society. She holds dear to the adage where the more you give, the more you will receive. Within the Group, she will ensure that the staffs’ welfare is always well taken care. Lexis also engages employees who are physically challenged, and they are placed in suitable departments according to their abilities. Apart from this noble gesture, Mandy also ensures that a staff hostel, located just nearby the resort, is equipped with a host of conveniences such as a mini mart, laundrette and canteen. To ease their daily commute, regular scheduled bus service is also made available to ferry the staff to and from the hostel and the resorts.
Within the community where each of the resort is located, regular Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities are held, especially during major festive seasons. To date, among the beneficiaries of Lexis’ CSR efforts include:
