Medfirst Healthcare Services Inc.

Information about the Company
Liru Chen, Chairman of Medfirst Healthcare Services Inc. (Medfirst), was a nurse working at Linkou Chang-Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan before she established Medfirst more than 30 years ago. She discovered that the domestic medical support for home care was insufficient when she found one of her patients had returned to the hospital for further treatments after being discharged from the hospital for a few days. Therefore, she established Medfirst, the first medical retail store dedicated to home care in Taiwan, after she resigned from the hospital.

In the early days of the company’s establishment, Medfirst aimed to assist people in every aspect of home care to ensure the brand promise of “Be Your Health Protector of Home Care”. Medfirst extends the foundation of the brand promise with professional medical knowledge to generate trust from customers as well as start to care about patients and their families. Medfirst serves all customers, patients, and their families with love and medical health education to ensure that they are satisfied.

Brand Elements
Medfirst’s first store was opened next to Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Linkou, making it more convenient for Chairman Liru Chen to take care of her family and patients. Liru Chen recalls that at the beginning of Medfirst, one of her patients who was discharged from the hospital, was in urgent need of medical equipment for home care. In order to take care of the patient, she ran wildly despite her pregnancy to deliver nursing supplies before the patient left the hospital.

Under the strong branding foundation and the great endeavor of Chairman Liru Chen and her team, Medfirst begins to open new branches in the hospital and surrounding areas, as well as in the community. When a patient seeks medical treatment in the hospital or returns home after being discharged from the hospital, Medfirst will play an essential role in home care. It currently makes Medfirst the only channel in Taiwan to provide people with care services from hospital to home.
Inspiring Identity
For over 30 years, customers have been praising and showing their appreciation toward Medfirst. A prime example was when many stores were closed earlier than usual due to a typhoon at night. There was a patient who needed an oxygen concentrator to survive but problems had occurred with the equipment at the time. Fortunately, Medfirst’s staff did everything they could to resolve the issues and helped save the patient’s life.

Medfirst is leading in service quality, offering many premium services. For instance, Medfirst is the first healthcare retail store offering a 7-day return policy in Taiwan, and the company also provides value cards and helps patients rent medical equipment from place A and return the equipment to place B.

Achievements & Impact
Today, Medfirst owns over 300 retail stores in Taiwan and Mainland China and has already expanded its business territory to Marketplace, Soiled Linens Washing and Smart Logistics. Medfirst aims to further expand its services to other distributors.

Moreover, Medfirst has already launched its digital transformation many years ago. The company constructed a total in-house digital system and added marketing communication channels such as Line and Facebook. Furthermore, Medfirst set up an online app to enable customers to shop anytime.

Customers’ behaviors change during the COVID-19 pandemic with them becoming more health-conscious and shifting their shopping preferences to online shopping over traditional shopping. As customers begin to pay more attention to health issues, Medfirst has created self-owned brand “Yu-Hu” health food products to meet their needs.

Future Direction
In Taiwan’s aging society, healthcare is becoming a national issue with the increasing need for long-term care. Medfirst will continue to serve customers and satisfy their home care needs with a new focus on medical devices and self-owned health food.

In the future, Medfirst aims to keep expanding through more branches and increase its product variety. It also seeks to promote a membership economy and integrate online to offline.
