Ms. Thao is the youngest sibling of Businessman Hoang Quoc Viet – Chairman of NHG. He has been the founder of NHG since 1999, with a computer company ranked amongst the top-5 biggest IT brands of Vietnam at that time, providing a solid technology platform as NHG moved from IT to Education later.

NHG is known as a family-owned company, a family of six brothers and sisters, who were raised with love for humanity, the spirit of loving each other and working with integrity.

In the early 2008, NHG opened the iSchool system in provinces, benefiting from the state policies that encourage private education. In 2011, Ms. Thao, as the Group’s CFO, designed investment packages and launched the Saigon Academy (SGA) kindergarten in the center of Saigon. In 2015, NHG started gaining attention when acquiring a private university: Hong Bang International University.

By the end of 2015, at the age of 36, Ms. Thao became the CEO. As a financially savvy person with an agile mind and great passion inherited from her brother, she repositioned every brand they have. By setting the standards of iSchool in accordance with international integration standards and boosting iSchool’s revenue by 400% comparing to previous years, she continued to affirm NHG’s position and help the group gain strong confidence of provincial leaders.

Ms.Thao also made decisions on system administration, such as signing with Claned Oy of Finland to provide artificial intelligence solutions in training, deploying the dynamic ERP solution – Microsoft 365 at NHG.

At the same time, she quickly promoted the construction of schools and opened a series of new schools: NHG established a British standard school (UKA), acquired Baria- Vungtau University (BVU) and International Schools of North America (SNA) – providing US – accredited program. The Group also established iStudent – Institute for International Relations and Study Abroad – responsible for opening representative offices overseas and partner’s offices in Vietnam.

As she has visited many countries and big schools overseas, she decided to develop appropriate programs at NHG through cooperation. NHG has several big international partners right in Vietnam and it is Ms. Thao that has brought many solutions and educational programs to increase students’ benefits. An example is that NHG is the first corporation to completely apply the Junior Achievement (JA) program – teaching financial skills, career orientation and start-up to students in the system.

The public realized that NHG has been pioneering and leading a closed education and training system from kindergarten to PhD level with several segments, which approaches international education standards and meets the expectations of families from middle-class upwards – those who spend approximately 3 billion US dollars on studying abroad.

From young age, Ms. Thao was passionate about tourism and planned to work in diplomatic sector. As an energetic and hardworking Hospitality student, after her internship at a 5-star hotel in Saigon, she wrote a letter to her boss, a British director, to thank him for supporting her during the internship. Impressed by her excellent internship results and the thank-you letter, the British director personally offered her a high position at the hotel. However, she decided to refuse the attractive offer to become a partner of her brother, Mr. Hoang Quoc Viet.

With her 10-year financial experience at NHG, Ms. Thao was officially promoted to CEO by the Board of Shareholders in October 2015. Her brother, Mr. Hoang Quoc Viet “transferred” the management position to her and has since been fully dedicated to the strategic positioning of the group as the Chairman of the Board.

Ms.Thao is the first to be at the office and may be one of the last to leave. According to NHG’s staff, she knows how to listen to her employees and share with them in case of any difficulties or issues, which is very different from the normal fact that there is always a gap between the boss and the staff.

“A working day at NHG can be very hectic, but when we see our top leaders, especially our CEO working hard days and nights, we cannot do anything to help but try our best to complete the work. Ms Thao is not only a smart, hardworking leader but also a humble, loving sister.” Said Ms. Huong – a companion and financial supervisor of NHG – who is also known as being very experienced and devoted.

This is the reason why NHG has a very special slogan: “Trust and Romance”. Romance indicates dream, creativity and striving for beauty. Ms.Thao said: “When technology is booming at such a fast pace, humanity will arise to balance the world”. Managerial spirit “servant leadership” (the phrase coined by Robert K. Greenleaf – former director of research management at AT&T to express a leadership style emerging since 1970), has naturally permeated her. That’s also the working spirit of the top CEOs such as Mark Zuckerberg and Dholakia when they strive to lead.

“My parents once said “No man is a lone island”. I always see human resources as invaluable resources of the company.” – Ms.Thao said. She often shares with her colleagues about the love for humanity, as Jack Ma has shared that apart from IQ and EQ, LQ (Love Quotient) is a must-have for leaders. Since her childhood, the talented CEO has always brought with her the book “101 ways to nourish your soul”. Her favorite quote from the Bible which has later on become her guiding living principle is: “The greatest among you will be your servant; for those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted” (Matthew 23: 11-12)

Ms. Thao often shares with her staff about a story of the two employees. When assigned the same work by their boss, one of them says: “This is difficult but I can do it.”, the another says: “This is difficult but I’ll do my best.”. The second one, by saying so, has chosen failure from the beginning while the first one, by confirming that he could do it, showed that he believed in himself and would manage to complete the work. With this story, she has established such working spirit for NHG’ staff: Sharing the same goals, working with passion, overcoming difficulties and focusing on successes. “When thousands of staffs are in agreement, the destination is clear” – the young female entrepreneur Thu Thao, who regards herself as a bit strong and hot – tempered as her brother, talked about the determination of the team.

“We can imagine a tram running inside the International Education City (IEC) of NHG. Ring ring, this is HIU stop. Ring ring, this is SNA stop…” – Chairman Hoang Quoc Viet shared a bit about the IEC to young colleagues of NHG. Young staffs are also being inspired with passion and experience to become the inheritors in the future…
